Clever, strong, wise

Pedro Furtivo is Spanish for Sneaky Pete, and every label tells a fable of Pedro at a different age.

Joven and High Proof Blanco are on their way.

Three founders, one tequila

Peter Kiley leads the tequila side as the tequilero. Rachel Kiley, co-founder and CEO, runs Sneaky Pete Spirits, the company behind the bottle. Omar Martinez grows every agave on his family’s land in Jalisco.

Single estate means one source

Every bottle starts on the Martinez family land in Ixtlahuacán del Río, the hometown of Omar’s father. Both of Omar’s grandfathers farmed it; it was left behind when his father emigrated, and Omar brought it back. The agave azul grows six to seven years in its ground before the harvest.

The estate story

Pedro Furtivo: The Origin Story

Our process

Seven steps, slow on purpose

From the harvest to the bottle. The process page has each step, who does it and why it matters.

The whole process
  1. Harvested agave piñas stacked at the edge of a field while a worker looks on

    Step 1

    Growing & harvesting

Agave takes a minimum of six years to reach full maturity before the harvest.

  2. Agave piñas stacked inside a brick oven

    Step 2

    Cooking

The piñas cook slowly in large ovens, turning starches into fermentable sugar.

  3. Shredded agave fiber falling from the mill's conveyor into a truck at the distillery, from the Origin Story film

    Step 3

    Extraction

The cooked agave is carefully shredded and its juice extracted: the mosto.

  4. 12days of fermentation

    Step 4

    Fermentation

Wild yeast, deep-well water from the Martinez family land and some rain water.

  5. Two men tasting tequila beside the stainless-steel stills

    Step 5

    Distillation

Double-distilled in traditional pot stills to separate the spirit from impurities.

  6. A row of oak barrels resting in the barrel room

    Step 6

    Aging or resting

Blanco unaged, Reposado rested six months, Añejo aged over a year.

  7. Three bottles of Pedro Furtivo Blanco on a wooden table

    Step 7

    Bottling

Small batch, 100% agave azul, NOM 1360: Purveyors of Purity on every label.
